#

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili, met with fish farmers and business operators in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region to discuss current challenges and opportunities within the aquaculture sector.

Held in Akhaltsikhe, the meeting focused on regional fish production, the importance of laboratory research for ensuring food safety, and the role of modern diagnostics in supporting the growth of the aquaculture industry.

Specialists from the State Laboratory of Agriculture presented the laboratory's diagnostic capabilities, providing participants with detailed information about the research and services available.

“In order to produce Georgian goods that meet international standards, it is essential to carry out laboratory testing in line with global requirements. The strengthening of the State Laboratory of Agriculture and the introduction of internationally accredited methods serve this very goal. The government supports both the production of safe products and their export to international markets, including the European Union,” noted Deputy Minister Pavliashvili.

The discussion also addressed the importance of advancing education in ichthyology. The need to develop academic programs to train future professionals in this field was emphasized as a priority.

The meeting was attended by local fish farmers; Deputy State Representative of the Samtskhe-Javakheti Region, David Vardiashvili; Mayor of Akhaltsikhe Municipality, Irakli Lazarashvili; Director of the State Laboratory of Agriculture, Irakli Guledani; Rector of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University; Dean of the Veterinary Department; and representatives from the Rural Development Agency, National Food Agency, State Laboratory of Agriculture, and local government bodies.
