The history of the laboratory
The first veterinary laboratory in Georgia was established in 1907. Over the years, the laboratory system evolved significantly, developing into a strong nationwide network.
In 2006, the LEPL “Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia” was founded, expanding its scope to include not only animal disease diagnostics but also plant pest diagnostics and food safety testing. Since 2020, the organization has operated under the name LEPL State Laboratory of Agriculture.
The laboratory network is equipped with modern technology and meets Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) standards.
In 2014, the laboratory received international accreditation under the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard, making all test results internationally recognized. All processes follow strict, high-quality, and standardized procedures.
Today, the laboratory operates 13 branches across Georgia, including:
3 Zonal Diagnostic Laboratories: Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Akhaltsikhe.
10 Regional Laboratories: Gori, Marneuli, Dusheti, Gurjaani, Ambrolauri, Ozurgeti, Zugdidi, Batumi, Sachkhere, Mestia.
The laboratory operates under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and plays a key role in supporting and protecting the country’s agricultural sector.
