Training on Next-Generation Sequencing Held at the State Laboratory of Agriculture

#

The State Laboratory of Agriculture hosted a training within the framework of the project “Complex Epidemiological Research and Control of FMD in Armenia and Georgia.”

Specialists from the Virology-Serology Laboratory (Molecular Biology) and the Genetic Testing Laboratory participated in both theoretical and practical sessions.

The training included presentations on the development of sequencing technologies and various platforms. Participants reviewed the methods applied during the sessions and engaged in hands-on practical exercises.

Notably, as part of the training, participants conducted sequencing using a next-generation sequencing (NGS) platform.

At the Genetic Testing Laboratory, participants explored the sequencing process in detail, covering all stages—from sample preparation to data reading using the Illumina MiSeq system. Key steps included fragment size determination, RNA library preparation, concentration measurement, adapter and index ligation, library validation, sequencing, and data interpretation.

The training was attended by representatives of the State Laboratory of Agriculture, the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC), Armenia’s Scientific Center for Risk Assessment and Analysis in the Field of Food Safety (CJSC), and representatives from the SNCO laboratory.

The State Laboratory of Agriculture continues to actively collaborate with international organizations, research institutions, and partner laboratories to strengthen scientific capacity and knowledge exchange.
