Solomon Pavliashvili, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, and Irakli Guledani, Director of the State Laboratory of Agriculture, met with plastic bag producers and importers in Georgia.

During the meeting, representatives from the State Laboratory of Agriculture described the capabilities of the polymer testing laboratory to the participants. The parties reviewed the issues of plastic bag production and import, as well as the laws which the company operators will have to follow in the future.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, the Department of Environmental Supervision, Georgian Customs and the State Laboratory of Agriculture.

"Given the current challenges, we made a significant decision and established a laboratory to monitor the quality of plastic bag degradation and compliance with the regulations. At the working meeting with plastic bag manufacturers and importers, we learned about the manufacturers' needs. It is critical for us that the sector establishes standards and is ready to face upcoming governmental control and inspection," stated Solomon Pavliashvili.

It should be noted that the polymer testing facility was designed in accordance with international standards, and it is fully equipped with modern technology along with the required infrastructure.

A polymer testing laboratory in Georgia enables plastic bag makers and exporters to easily obtain comprehensive information on whether their products are biodegradable or not. Furthermore, it is important to note that laboratory testing will only be undertaken on plastic bag created in accordance with the regulations and standards of the Georgian government's technical regulation N472.
