Serological studies on canine distemper and leishmaniasis are carried out in the State Laboratory of Agriculture
In the State Laboratory of Agriculture, serological studies on canine distemper and leishmaniasis (ELISA-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) are conducted. Serological research excludes wrong diagnosis; therefore, the timely and correct treatment of the disease confirmed by the mentioned research is a guarantee of the animal's health.
Canine distemper and leishmaniasis are quite common and problematic diseases. When making a diagnosis or choosing a treatment, one wrong step by the veterinarian may lead to a lethal outcome. Therefore, it is necessary to make an accurate diagnosis before choosing a treatment.
In modern veterinary medicine, rapid diagnostic tests for various diseases are widely used, which the veterinarian uses to determine the probable cause of the disease after learning about the changes in the animal's body. However, many viruses have changed the form of manifestation in the body so much that, in terms of clinical signs, it no longer fits the classic cases.
Quick tests, at first glance, are quite convenient and easy to use, and the answer is known very quickly, in about half an hour. Rapid tests are characterized by high sensitivity; the test detects many possible variants of the disease (not specific); therefore, false positive responses are frequent, which is a prerequisite for choosing the wrong treatment.
In addition, rapid tests are characterized by low specificity; during the course of the test, so-called cross-reactions may occur; that is, the test for a particular disease gave us a positive result while we were dealing with a completely different disease. In this way, the wrong treatment will be selected, which can lead to the death of the animal.
In the canine distemper ELISA study at the State Agricultural Laboratory, anti-disease antibodies (IgG) are detected, which are produced by the immune system of the infected organism to protect itself from the virus (error is impossible).
In the Leishmaniasis ELISA study, anti-leishmaniasis antibodies (IgG) produced by the infected organism against the parasite are detected (error is excluded). To get more information about these diseases, visit the website of the laboratory:
